If you would like to send email from your domain name using your Gmail account please use the following steps:

  1. Log into your Gmail account
  2. Choose “Settings” from the right-hand corner.
  3. On the settings screen there is a number of options, you will need to go to “Accounts”.
  4. You will be taken to a screen where you have the option to “Send mail as".
  5. Click on the blue "Add another email address you own" link. A modal window will now appear.
  6. Add the name you wish your email address to come from in the "Name" field. For example, this could be your company name.
  7. Add the email address you wish to email to appear sent from in the "Email" field.
  8. Deselect the "Treat as an alias" tick box.
  9. Click "Next Step".
  10. Choose the "Send through Gmail" option and click "Next Step".
  11. Click “Send verification”, you will then be asked to enter and verify the confirmation code, if you minimise this box and go back to your inbox you will have received an email which includes your confirmation code. Copy and paste this back into the window you have just minimised.
  12. Choose “Verify”
  13. If you go back into “Settings” and “Accounts” you will be able to see next to the “Send mail as:” section the email address you previously entered will appear.
  14. Hover over your new email address and click "Make Default".
  15. You can now check this has been set up by choosing “Compose mail” and using the drop down box to select the email address you wish to send from.

I've tried to do this in outlook (using Hotmail) but can't see a send as function.....in actual Outlook I think I remember being able to add a 'from' box in the same way you can add 'cc' and 'bcc'....can't find it on Hotmail/windows live though.  Shall I sign up to gmail instead?

Sorry to have to ask, but is this only relevant if the domain name is reg with you guys? I have my domain stored else where at the moment, and have not set up their email forwarding yet, as they charge. I intended to point my domain at my host rather than have both on the same platform.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your message.

You should be able to use these instructions to add any email address, no matter where its registered :)

Thanks for the reply, but I'm still getting the following error 550 5.1.1. Do you have to have an activated email host/plan first?

Hi Julie,

Is this for your Create website? If so, please can you let me know your domain name so I can ask you Account Manager to drop you an email?
