You can use the postage type "banded by weight" to set a certain postage cost per product in your shop. This is handy if you want to confirm with Royal Mail's postage charges which are set by both weight and parcel size.
Firstly, if you are not already using it, you can read how to set up the "banded by weight" postage type, and how to add weight values to your product, in our postage guide here
Then, to use this postage type to set some product prices in your Shop, please follow my example below.
Let's take Royal Mail's postage costs for parcels as example to set up in your shop. At present, the postage charges with Royal Mail for 1st class parcels to the UK are as follows:
Up to 1kg small parcel £3.00 Up to 1kg medium parcel £5.65 Up to 2kg smallparcel £6.85 Up to 2kg medium parcel £8.90 Up to 5kg - £15.10 Up to 10kg - £21.25 Up to 20 kg - £32.40
You could set up these brackets, in your banded by weight fields in your postage settings as follows:
Band / Price
Up to 1 kg = £3.00 Up to 2 kg = £5.65 Up to 3 kg = £6.85 Up to 4 kg = £8.90 Up to 5 kg = £15.10 Up to 6 kg = £21.25 Up to 7 kg = £32.40
You can then work out what the correct postage should be for each of your products, and add the false weight to that product.
For example, if you have a products that weighed 1.5kg and was up to the following dimensions 61cmX 46cm X 46cm (Royal Mail medium parcel size - £8.90) you would set the 'false' weight in the product to be "3.5kg". This would then bring the correct postage amount, for that product in the checkout.

The weight value you enter here will not be seen by the customer, but it will enable you to have a more accurate postage rate per each of your products.
