How do I add Google Analytics to my site?

Google Analytics is a statistics program that tracks visitors on your website. It will provide you with information on how visitors found your website, what they looked at when they were there and much more. This is a free service provided by Google which you can integrate with your Create account.

To sign up for this service or more information please go to the link below:

Google will supply you with a unique code (e.g. UA-123456-2) which you will need to insert into the "Google Analytics" section of your "Edit Site Information" screen.

To do this please follow the instructions below:

  1. Log in to your Create account.
  2. Click "Content" from the top menu.
  3. Click "Edit Site Information" from the left hand menu.
  4. Click the tab titled "Google Analytics" and paste the code into the 'Google Analytics' box.
  5. Go to "Save Changes".
  6. Publish your Website to push your changes live

This UA code feeds your whole site into Google Analytics, so you don't have to worry about adding script to each page.

How long does it take for Google Analytics to start working?

Google Analytics generally updates your reports every 24 hours. This means that it could take 24 hours for data to appear in your account after you have first installed the tracking code.

If you have installed the tracking code and are still not able to see data after 24 hours please contact your Account Manager.

Do you still have to add the google analytics script to the pages you want to track, or is the UA number sufficient? The guide doesn't say anything about that...

Hi Markus, thanks for the feedback. We'll add a mention about that now.

The UA will be sufficient to cover the whole site. You won't need to add script to each page.

    Thanks again!

Hi, the Google Analytics integration with Create doesn't currently support ecommerce data (as in recording visits as well as which visits resulted in a purchase and for how much), but it is something we can consider for the future.

Hi there, I have had Google Analytics set up with my website for the past year and the results never match up to Create Site Statistics. Why is this? Which one would be more accurate??

    Hi Caroline,

Google Analytics offers much more accurate and detailed statistics than the old Create Site Statistics, and we recommend you base your site analysis on their tool, which is much more specialised. The Create Site Statistics will not be updated from 20/11/12 - you can find more information about this in our announcement.

    Best wishes,
